Suspect dead after hours-long SWAT standoff at Cobb County home, police say

Officers said they responded to the home along Plains Way in Marietta after a man was shot and the suspect barricaded themselves inside.

A suspect is dead after an hours-long SWAT standoff at a Cobb County home Tuesday night, according to the police department.

Officers said they responded to the home along Plains Way in Marietta after a man was shot and the suspect barricaded himself inside. The home is near Mountain View Elementary School along Sandy Plains Road.

Cobb County Police said the man who was shot was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

11Alive crews at the scene heard the SWAT team negotiating with the suspect over a loudspeaker and what sounded like a smoke bomb went off.

Several SWAT vehicles and dozens of police were spotted in the neighborhood. Police asked residents in the area to stay in their homes and for the public to avoid the area, while they investigated.

Detectives believe the suspect died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
