ATLANTA — The man accused of shooting and killing an employee for putting "too much mayo" on a sandwich at an Atlanta Subway store was denied bond Wednesday, according to court documents.
Melvin Williams is currently behind bars, charged with murder, felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree criminal damage to property, third-degree cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The 36-year-old was arrested in June 2022, just one day after the incident. Atlanta Police said the shooting happened after an argument at a Subway location on Northside Drive just south of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
According to court docs, Williams was denied bond because the "defendant poses a significant risk of committing a felony pending trial."
A second victim, identified by family as 24-year-old Jada Nicole Statum, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. That woman survived.
Macon's family said she started working at the Subway restaurant on Northside Drive about three weeks ago. Just before that, she worked for UPS.
The restaurant owner, Willie Glenn, added that Statum's 5-year-old son was with her inside the store when it happened. The warrants list a second male victim as being shot at with Statum.
11Alive obtained jail records that show that Williams has been arrested multiple times before.
Back in 2013, records show he was arrested on charges of burglary and aggravated assault. Just three months ago, he was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and cruelty to children, according to records.
Williams is currently being held at the Fulton County Jail.
