Suspect search after Atlanta battalion truck stolen while firefighters battle fire

Eventually, police found the truck roughly half-a-mile away.

ATLANTA — Police are still looking for a suspect that they said stole a battalion truck from the scene of a fire near the Bankhead neighborhood on the west side -- as firefighters were working to put out a fire.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, firefighters with Atlanta Fire Rescue were "actively putting out a fire" off Cameron M Alexander Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when a witness approached crews and told them that someone stole their battalion truck, an SUV equipped with lights and sirens. Firefighters called police, who placed a city-wide lookout for the vehicle.

Eventually, police found the truck roughly half-a-mile away off Andrew J Hairston Place. Officers processed the truck and brought out K-9 units to canvass the area for a suspect or suspects, but none were found. Despite speaking to witnesses in the area to try and get a possible description of the suspect, police said the person is still outstanding.

Anyone with information on the person is asked to contact police.
