ATLANTA — Seven people were detained after a nearly seven hours-long standoff at an Atlanta home, police said Monday.
Officers responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Delmar Lane in northwest Atlanta, just outside the perimeter, around 7 a.m. in reference to an alleged "burglary call."
When officers arrived, they were told by witnesses that multiple people had gone inside the home that was under construction. Officers saw one of the men attempting to leave the home, but the man went back inside after the officers made contact with him and he refused to come out. SWAT units were sent to the scene just before 10 a.m.
"SWAT units successfully cleared the home which resulted in seven persons exiting the home peacefully," APD said in a release. "Officers currently have seven individuals detained at this time as the investigation continues."
Authorities have not yet said if any of the people detained are facing any potential charges.
"I thought they were moving in, evidently it must have been something different for all of this to be going on," a neighbor added, who also said the home involved in the standoff was vacant.
APD said their investigation remains ongoing.
