EAST POINT, Ga. — A suspect is in custody following an hours-long standoff in East Point after a physical altercation ended with a man opening fire and retreating into an apartment, police said.
According to the East Point Police Department, it received a call around 3:40 p.m. in reference to a physical altercation and shots fired near the 3200 block of Matador Court. Once officers arrived, they were advised by a victim that he was involved in a physical altercation with a man who lives at an apartment at the location.
The victim told police that once the fight ended, the man got a firearm from his vehicle and opened fire at him and others outside of the location. The victim said no one was struck and that the man then went back inside his apartment.
Officers were able to talk to the man through the front door of the apartment, where he refused to leave, police said.
East Point Police said at 7:23 p.m. that its criminal investigation division and the South Metro SWAT were at the scene and working to resolve the situation peacefully.
The law enforcement agency provided an update at 9:50 p.m. that the suspect involved was taken into custody without incident after SWAT entered the residence. The man was sent to the East Point Detention Center to be booked and processed, police said.
