Teen faces multiple charges in Texas crash that killed 6 members of Alpharetta family

Investigators say now 18-year-old Luke Resecker was driving South on US 67 in a 2014 Chevy when he drove into oncoming traffic and hit a 2021 Honda Odyssey head on.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — A teenage boy was arraigned on several charges Tuesday for a fatal December crash in Johnson County that killed six people, all members of the same family, and left three others critically injured.

Those charges, among others, include intoxication manslaughter and possession of marijuana.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Transportation, investigators say now 18-year-old Luke Resecker was driving south on US 67 in a 2014 Chevy Silverado on Dec. 26.

A crash report released by TXDOT states that that Silverado crossed over the yellow line on US 67, entering the lane where a 2021 Honda Odyssey was headed in the opposite direction. The Odyssey tried to avoid the Silverado, but the Silverado collided into the front right part of the Odyssey.

An entire family was in that van. A man named Lokesh Potabathula, 26, of Alpharetta, Georgia survived the crash, but his wife, two young children, father-in-law, mother-in-law and cousin were all killed.

According to the release, Resecker was arraigned Tuesday by the 18th District Court Judge Sydney Hewlett, for six counts of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of intoxication assault, possession of a controlled substance,, and possession of marijuana.

His bond was set at $50,000 with a restriction of monitored home confinement. Due to ongoing medical condition, officials said, Resecker was not medically fit to be booked into the Johnson County Jail. Resecker posted the bond and was released.

Officials did not say if those medical conditions were related to the crash, but we know Resecker and his passenger, Preston Glass, were both in critical condition following the accident.
