Teen guilty in Gwinnett pizza delivery murder

A Gwinnett teenager is guilty of murder in the death of a pizza delivery man in March.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga – A Gwinnett teenager was found guilty of murder in the March death of a Papa John’s delivery man.

Reginald Lofton, now 15, was found guilty on Friday in Gwinnett Superior Court on two counts of felony murder in the death of Shane Varnadore, 28. Lofton and Jermaine Young, 21, were arrested following the March 1 shooting. Lofton was found not guilty of malice murder.

Sentencing for Lofton will be held in 60 days. Young has not yet been tried.

Police say Lofton and Young lured Varnadore to the Wesley Herrington apartments near Lawrenceville under the guise of a routine delivery, where they shot and killed Varnadore instead.

Prosecutors argued that while police don’t know who actually pulled the trigger, Lofton, then 14, admitted he knew Young was planning to rob Varnadore. Prosecutors also said Lofton provided Young the cell phone to place the order as well as the gun used in the crime.

Sentencing for Lofton will be held in 60 days.
