16-year-old dies after shooting near DeKalb County apartment complex, police say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 16-year-old has died after a shooting near a DeKalb County apartment complex Monday evening, according to the police.

The DeKalb County Police Department said officers responded to the 300 block of Hatton Drive, near the Oak Forest Apartments, shortly after 6:15 p.m. 

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken to the hospital by EMS, where he died due to his injuries, according to police. 

"Initial information indicates the suspect was known to the victim prior to the shooting," DeKalb County Police added.

Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
