ELBERTON, Ga. — A teenager was killed, and seven others were shot after gunfire rang out outside a nightclub in Elberton, Georgia, on Saturday night.
Elbert County Emergency Services confirmed just before midnight on Oct. 12, their agency, along with the Elbert County Sheriff's Office and Elbert County EMS, responded to a shooting near 7 Grand nightclub on Evergreen Drive in reference to multiple people shot.
Elberton is about 100 miles northeast of Atlanta near the South Carolina state line.
11Alive obtained video which was recorded by an individual in a vehicle near the nightclub, where you can hear more than 20 shots being fired, followed by chaos as many were trying to get out of the area.
The victims were rushed to area hospitals for treatment. Seven of the victims ranged in age from 15-19, and the eighth victim was an adult.
Hart County Schools put out a statement on Sunday confirming one of their students died in the shooting. The school district identified the 15-year-old as Bry’Shun Jordan, who attended Hart Academy.
The district said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Bry’Shun’s family, friends, and the entire Hart County community during this difficult time."
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested to help the Elbert County Sheriff's Office process the scene and investigate the homicide.
It's unclear how many of the six other teenagers who survived the shooting are students.
On Monday, Daniel Graves, the Mayor of Elberton, put out a statement on Facebook regarding the deadly shooting.
"Our community's heart is broken over the events of this past Saturday evening. It is proof of what we already knew, but don't want to have to accept: our community is not immune from the terrible, senseless and tragic events of our times," Graves wrote.
As of Monday night, no arrests have been made in the deadly shooting.
Hart County Schools said they will have counselors on hand this week for students who might need to talk to someone, whereas Elbert County Schools are on Fall break this week.
