DeKalb County gas station intentionally set on fire following robbery, officials say

The incident happened at a Texaco gas station on North Decatur Road just south of the Stone Mountain Freeway.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A gas station in DeKalb County was engulfed in flames early Thursday morning, and fire investigators suspect it was intentionally set following a robbery.

The incident happened at a Texaco gas station on North Decatur Road just south of the Stone Mountain Freeway. According to the wife of the clerk who was on duty at the time, two men entered the store to rob the place at gunpoint.

She said one had a gun, and the other carried a gasoline container.

While the clerk was locked inside, his wife said the suspects poured gasoline on the floor and ignited it. The clerk was about to find a fire extinguisher to help fight the flames and called 911. That's when the suspects fled. The clerk's wife said he was able to escape unharmed.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department said crews arrived in time to shut off the gas pumps, preventing an even worse situation. Authorities are now actively reviewing the surveillance footage to identify the suspects.
