FULTON COUNTY - Fulton County firefighters say they've been the victim of repeated car thefts and break-ins in recent months. Firefighters say the brazen thieves have targeted cars in the station parking lot typically while they were out on emergency calls.

"No different than a homeowner. We are part of these communities. So, we are outraged when things are stolen from us," Deputy Chief Jack Butler, Jr. said.

According to police reports obtained by 11Alive News, there's been seven car thefts or break-ins at South Fulton County fire stations, stretching back to August 30.

Several firefighters told 11Alive they're so frustrated by the repeated break-ins and lack of security, they've started parking their personal cars inside the garage usually reserved for fire engines.

The Fire Department says they are planning to install fences at several stations starting next week. They hope the fences will be a physical deterrent to would-be thieves.
