CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A Canton man has learned his fate after being sentenced for multiple sex crimes involving a child.
According to Cherokee County District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway, a jury found Juan Nazario Lopez, 53, guilty of rape, incest, aggravated child molestation, child molestation, and enticing a child for indecent purposes. The charges stem from a 2023 investigation in which law enforcement was tipped off to a child being molested by a family member.
During the four-day trial, jurors heard testimony from 11 witnesses, including law enforcement officers, an expert in the dynamics of child sexual abuse, an expert in forensic interviewing and the victim.
After a day and a half of deliberation, jurors found Lopez guilty of all five charges on Friday, Apr. 26
Sentencing has been set for May 8.
