DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Nearly a year after a shooting at a Stone Mountain gas station left a man dead, a suspect has been convicted for the crime.
On Wednesday, a DeKalb County jury found Nathan Weeks, 27, guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The charges stem from the shooting death of 54-year-old Isaac Godbolt.
In June 2023, officers responded to reports of a person shot at a gas station in the 4700 block of Redan Road. Upon arrival, they found Godbolt in his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
According to court documents, surveillance video showed Weeks arriving at the gas station and then hanging out with a group of people near a silver car. Godbolt pulled up in his vehicle and talked to one of the people in the group before pulling forward slightly.
Weeks then walked over to Godbolt’s car, and Godbolt tried to get out, but Weeks opened fire, shooting Godbolt repeatedly. Weeks then ran from the scene.
Court officials said Weeks confessed to the murder in a recorded conversation with his mother. He was taken into custody in Columbus, Georgia. At the time of his arrest, he had the handgun that was determined to be the murder weapon with him.
Weeks is set to be sentenced in the coming weeks.
