YFN Lucci plea deal | How long has the rapper been in jail?

The rapper submitted a guilty plea Tuesday in his long-running Fulton County gang case.

ATLANTA — A guilty plea submitted Tuesday brought to an end the long legal saga of rapper YFN Lucci in Atlanta.

As part of the plea, the rapper -- whose legal name is Rayshawn Bennett -- was sentenced to 10 years in prison for violating the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

But a provision within the plea agreement means he won't likely spend close to that amount in time of jail -- partly because he's already been in jail for nearly three years since the case was first brought in May 2021.

Here are some of the details.

How long has YFN Lucci been in jail in Atlanta? When could he possibly get out?

The exact answer, according to court documents submitted Tuesday, is 989 days in jail.

Why is that important information for his potential release? Well, the agreement stipulated that prosecutors will “write a letter to Parole Board recommending release when you are first eligible so long as you comply with your sentence.”

That means he could stand a good chance to get out of jail as soon as he's up for parole -- which itself is an important piece of things, as Georgia's  State Board of Pardons and Paroles website states that “most parole-eligible inmates become statutorily eligible for parole consideration after serving one-third of their prison sentence."

With 989 days already logged in jail, YFN Lucci would sometime this year reach a third of his 10-year sentence if that's when he's determined to be parole-eligible.

Details on if that will indeed be the case that are not clear from court documents. But if he falls under the normal one-third standard -- and with a potential recommendation for release from prosecutors -- YFN Lucci could possibly get out of jail this year sometime.
