Family identifies 3-year-old boy killed in shooting at Athens mobile home park

This is a developing story.

ATHENS, Ga. — A 3-year-old boy was tragically killed after a triple shooting at a mobile home park in Athens on Friday evening, according to police.

Athens-Clarke County Police responded to Hallmark Mobile Home Park on Spring Valley Road just after 5:30 p.m. When they got to the home, they found out three people had been shot, including two children.

The adult and one of the children were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital. However, police said the other child injured by gunfire was later pronounced dead.

Shanita Smith said her 3-year-old son Kyron Zarco was killed in the shooting. Her 9-year-old son, who just celebrated his birthday yesterday, was also injured but is being treated for his injuries in the hospital, Smith told 11Alive's Cody Alcorn.

"They were sitting around the couch in the house watching movies," Smith said. She explained that she has six children. She said Kyron was inside the home when gunfire came through the window, striking two of her sons.

"My baby didn't even have a chance," Smith said, later adding, "Why? Why? I don't bother nobody. I don't bother nobody. So, were you aiming for someone else's house? Because why? My sweet little baby."

Smith provided a photo of her son to 11Alive.

11Alive's Cody Alcorn was at the scene and was working to find out what led up to the shooting. It is still an ongoing and active scene, police said.
