Two arrested after over $2 million in drugs seized from Buckhead high-rise, police say

Police said they believe that people were going there to buy it and that some of the drugs were marketed toward high school to college-aged kids.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police announced they seized over $2 million worth of drugs and over $100,000 worth of cash from a Buckhead high-rise apartment complex on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of two people.

In a press conference held by APD, officers announced their narcotics unit received an anonymous tip that there were large amounts of marijuana being kept at the AMLI 3464 apartment complex at 3464 Roxboro Rd.

Police said through their investigation, they were able to confirm there was marijuana inside an apartment unit and secured search warrants on Wednesday.

In the bust, Atlanta Police said they seized 580 pounds of marijuana, 49.5 pounds of mushrooms, 1,600 chocolate THC-infused candy bars, 39.5 pounds of THC edibles, 2,604 THC vape pens and 100 moon rocks, which is another form of marijuana. They also found 22 one-pint bottles of promethazine, which is cough syrup laced with codeine, police said.

"I will say that this is an extremely large marijuana bust, OK? This is the largest I've been involved with, APEX or narcotics, in five years," Lt. Robert Albertini said. "There's also an intake officer on property who said he hasn't seen this much weed brought in in 35 years, so this is a very significant seizure."

They also confiscated cash that amounted to over $100,000.

Police said they believe that people were going there to buy it and that some of the drugs were marketed toward high school to college-aged kids.

"Let me double down on that," Robertini said. "We know that the crime in Buckhead, particularly homicides, last year came about from drug-related violence. So, some people, some of the viewers, will say, 'It's just marijuana.' Well, hold it right there because it's not just marijuana. It's the collateral damage that comes from when people get robbed for the marijuana and the innocent victims that are targeted here."

Robertini said that he was not surprised the drug bust happened in an area like Buckhead.

"No, drugs are everywhere. Everywhere. So it wasn't surprising," Robertini said.

Police said in the time period from when they got the tip, they acted on it immediately and were able to do their investigative work and secure the drugs within 12 hours.

"It was immediate because when you're dealing with quantities like this, drugs are here today and gone tomorrow," Robertini said.

Robertini said despite the significance of the bust on Wednesday, their job is never finished.

"Oh, there's always more. There's always more. There's no days off for the narcotics unit," Robertini said.
