BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — Two students at Winder-Barrow High School were taken into custody Tuesday morning after a gun was discovered on the school's campus.
According to Maj. Ryan Sears with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, the school's resource officer received a tip at about 8:40 a.m. that a student had a gun on the school campus.
Sears said the officer was able to speak with the student and secure the gun without incident. Investigation of the incident led to the discovery that another student had initially brought the weapon to the school.
According to Sears, both students were taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm on school property and transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville.
Sears said that there is no evidence either student intended to use the gun on the school campus.
