Two teens found shot to death in Douglas County after iPhone crash alert, deputies say

Deputies are working to find out what led up to the shooting.

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating after two teens were found shot to death in Douglasville over the weekend.

In the early morning hours on Oct. 12, deputies were alerted by an iPhone automated crash alert and responded to the 3200 block of West Stewart Mill Road. Upon arrival, authorities could not locate a crash, but instead found 17-year-old Beatriz Vega and 19-year-old Roberto Deleon both critically injured from apparent gunshot wounds in the front seat of a car.

Both victims were transported to the hospital, where they later died.

The Cobb County School District confirmed Vega was a 12th-grade student at Pebblebrook High School.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a Pebblebrook student and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and school community. Counselors and support staff are available to assist students and staff during this difficult time, and we appreciate the media’s understanding in respecting the privacy of those grieving," a statement from the district reads.

Investigators are working to determine what led up to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact Douglas County Sheriff's Investigator Michael Aziz at 770-920-3923.

This is a developing story. Check back often for new information.
