'My heart goes out' | Mother and her two children shot inside DeKalb County home

The shooting happened at the home on Rock Meadow Drive early Wednesday morning.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A mother and her teen twins are recovering in the hospital after shots were fired into their DeKalb County home about 40 times in the first hours of the morning on Wednesday, according to the police.

DeKalb County Police Department said officers were called to a home on Rock Meadow Drive around midnight regarding a shooting. When they arrived, police said a 42-year-old woman and her 13-year-old twins were shot.

A neighbor, Eddie Dennis, who witnessed police swarm the scene after the shooting shared his concerns.

“It was nine or 10 police cars out here and EMS. They didn’t even want me to walk past because the crime scene was so big," said neighbor Eddie Dennis. “I got a baby down the street so that would be crazy if anything was to happen to my house."

The three were taken to the hospital for treatment and expected to be ok. Police said the suspect shot into the house about 40 times before leaving. The police department also added that at least eight other people were in the home and not hurt.

"My heart goes out to the kids and the mom," said Dennis.

Police say 11 people were inside at the time that shots rang out, however the only people who were shot were the mom and her twins.

“I can’t say I ever saw the kids, but I’ve seen people outside the house before. Its unfortunate," said Dennis.

Detectives are working to figure out the reason behind the shooting and the suspect. Dekalb County Police aren't sharing if residents in the area are in any danger.
