ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are investigating after a postal worker was robbed in broad daylight in Buckhead Thursday afternoon.
Authorities said the robbery occurred near Peachtree Road at 250 Pharr Road, NE, which is the address for the Eclipse residential condos-- across from the Atlanta Fish Market.
Several police vehicles are at the scene, as well as the US Postal Service Inspector.
There is no word on the suspect's whereabouts at this time.
Police aren't releasing much information, but management at the Eclipse condominiums sent a letter to residents saying that around 1 p.m., a mail carrier was attempting to deliver a package and was approached by someone wearing a yellow shirt and mask.
The suspect then took the mail carrier's keys at gunpoint, and a passerby who witnessed the robbery as it was occurring fired shots at the robber, who shot back, according to condo management.
Eclipse and other nearby apartment buildings were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Management said surveillance footage shows the suspect running away from the scene.
Residents say the incident has left them feeling shaken up.
"Daytime doesn’t mean anything anymore. It never really did at the end of the day," Ricardo Williams said. "People are probably at that point where they know nothing really matters, and you know, I see anything can happen to anybody at any given time that I look at it, so I just stay on guard."
No one was hurt in the incident, police said.
