A vigil was held Saturday afternoon, one year to the day that a man was shot to death in a Paulding County home.
No arrests have since been made in the murder of Mark Phillips, 34.
For Phillips, his lifelong wish came true just before Christmas 2016.
Mark's wife gave birth to the couple's first son, Mark, Jr.
"We were all overwhelmed," said Mark's sister Queena, "that's all he wanted, a wife and a child."
But this fairytale quickly turned tragic.
Less than a month later, Mark was gunned down in his own home.
"He was shot by three or four guys," said Queena.
Just after midnight on Friday the 13th, 2017, Mark and his wife returned to their Powder Springs home on Crestbend Lane.
As soon as they walked in the door, investigators say the crew of killers opened fire.
Phillips died in the home's foyer.
"He had a smile that would light up the room," said Queena, "he was a good person. He wouldn't hurt anyone."
The year that has followed has brought grief and despair. But nothing in the form of justice.
Paulding County Sheriff's Deputies say they're still looking for suspects.
Saturday, Mark's family held a vigil in his honor at New Zion Church in southwest Atlanta.
They vow to keep fighting for their brother.
"We want justice. We want peace. And we want understanding," said Queena Phillips. "We want to know why would anyone do this to this person."
