VILLA RICA, Ga. — A Villa Rica High School counselor is accused of making sexual advances toward students.
According to a news release by the Villa Rica Police Department, the Carroll County School District notified police on Feb. 16 about an allegation that a Villa Rica High School employee was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Police then identified the suspect as 30-year-old Alonzo Wyatt -- a full-time counselor at the high school. The investigation revealed that Wyatt allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a student on multiple occasions, officers said.
Police later identified two other victims as well. The investigation into the two other victims showed that Wyatt was counseling them. During a counseling session, he allegedly made inappropriate comments, solicited them for sex and groped them, according to a release.
The police department said that Wyatt has currently been charged with six counts of improper sexual contact and one count of criminal attempt to commit sexual contact by a person in a position of trust.
"He was in a position of trust at the school, and students depended on him for assistance, advice and safety," a release by the police department read. "Mr. Wyatt clearly and continuously broke that trust and preyed on the students that he was in charge of supervising and assisting."
The police said the case has taken time to investigate because of complex cell phone evidence and numerous victims and witnesses
The police department is also encouraging parents and guardians to have a conversation with students to ensure they have not witnessed or experienced concerning behavior while being counseled. If any concerns are discovered in relation to this case, please contact Villa Rica Police Sgt. Brian Finley at 678-840-1314 or bfinley@villarica.gov.
