Ring video helped lead police to arrest man accused of killing ex-wife in Marietta, warrants say

Ring video from a neighbor's camera helped police in their investigation.

ATLANTA — Editor's note: The video above is from an earlier story on Samantha Woolery's death.

Newly released warrants are offering new information on the arrest of a man accused of killing his ex-wife, an incoming medical resident, in Marietta last weekend.

Officers with Cobb County Police said Mickey Anthony Woolery drove down from Indiana to spend time with his wife, Samantha Woolery, at her apartment for the weekend.

Warrants state that Mickey could be seen in doorbell camera video from a neighbor entering and exiting Samantha's apartment throughout the weekend. In one of the videos, Mickey could be seen exiting the apartment with blood on his hands, feet, and pants.

A bloody fingerprint found on the wall by officers also matched Mickey's own prints.

In addition, bloody footprints were also found leading from the bedroom where Samantha was found to the front door of the apartment.

More on the case

Police announced Monday that 42-year-old Mickey Anthony Woolery was arrested in Carmel, Indiana. He faces felony murder, felony aggravated assault, felony aggravated battery, felony possession of a weapon during a crime and felony malice murder in the death of his former wife, Samantha Woolery.

Police believe Mickey Woolery fled Georgia and returned to his Indiana home. Carmel SWAT teams and detectives with the Marietta Police Department searched multiple addresses to capture him. During their search, police said he tried to run away.

The homicide investigation began Sunday morning when Marietta Police said they received a call about a woman stabbed at the Lakeside at Town Center Apartment Homes.

Remembering Samantha Woolery

According to the Morehouse School of Medicine, Samantha Woolery was an incoming surgical resident. A statement was released Monday afternoon, saying her loss is felt in the school community.

“Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Dr. Samantha Woolery, an incoming surgical resident and our 2023 Surgery Intern of the Year. Dr. Woolery, known for her kind spirit and exceptional ability to connect with others, was set to begin her categorical residency.

Her loss is profoundly felt within our Morehouse School of Medicine community. Our thoughts and condolences are with Dr. Woolery’s family and friends during this time," the statement from Dean and Executive Vice President of Health Affairs Adrian Tyndall said.

Woolery's sister Tamika Jones told 11Alive the couple had no history of domestic violence.

"We're just in total shock," Jones said. "We just couldn't believe that this...that he would have done this. Like, no way."

Jones told 11Alive her family is in mourning and described Samantha as a beautiful person.

Jones added that Samantha was born in Jamaica and moved to America with a dream of becoming a doctor. She began her career as a nurse but decided to go back and get her master's and doctorate degrees in Michigan.

Her daughter and a close friend launched an online fundraiser to help cover the funeral expenses.
