WINDER, Ga. -- A Georgia man is behind bars after police arrested him for alleged abuse of his 3-month-old child.

The Winder Police Department charged 31-year-old Stephen Lee Pritchett after an investigation found that he abused the infant on multiple occasions.

Police said they became aware of the abuse after the child's mother took the infant to Scottish Rite Hospital for a possible head injury. Officials said during the examination, doctors found that the 3-month-old had both old and new head trauma, as well as bone fractures. Doctors alerted authorities of the possible abuse, which sparked the investigation.

Winder Police officers conducted an investigation in conjunction with the Barrow County Family and Children Services. Based on the child's extensive injuries and other information gathered, police charged Pritchett with two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of First Degree cruelty to children.

He was taken into police custody and was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center.

Police did not indicate the child's condition.
