GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A woman is dead, and a man is in custody after a shooting at an apartment complex along Gwinnett Station Circle in Tucker on Monday morning, according to Gwinnett County Police.
Authorities investigated at the 1100 block of Gwinnett Station Circle. Gwinnett Police said they received the shooting call around 7:30 a.m. on Monday.
When officers arrived, they found the woman dead with a gunshot wound. The medical examiner later identified the woman killed as 24-year-old Mariana Guillen and said she had a gunshot wound to the face.
"At that point, the situation was locked down," Gwinnett Police Corporal Juan Madiedo said. "We called our homicide investigators, they responded to the scene and began interviewing and canvassing the area."
One of the residents of the apartments, Alberto, said he has lived at the complex for 14 years. He is used to crime and doesn't feel safe walking around the neighborhood at night.
"There's people out here sad. There are people hurt. People don't know how to react to this type of thing because it's always happening. There's not enough security out here," Alberto said.
According to the police department's preliminary investigation, the shooting is a domestic-related and isolated incident. Madiedo added that Mariana Guillen and the suspect knew each other and had kids together.
"We hope to have the suspect arrested here shortly," Madiedo said. "He has been identified. And, again, it's an isolated domestic incident between the male suspect and the female victim."
In an update, police said they have arrested 26-year-old Aaron Guillen in connection to Mariana's death. He is facing charges including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Aaron Guillen is currently in custody at the Newton County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Gwinnett County, the police department said.
