ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — A woman has been charged with the murder of another woman who said she was pregnant in Rockdale County, according to deputies and a witness at the scene.
Akia Tate is currently in the Rockdale County Jail, facing multiple charges, including felony murder. The incident happened on the morning of June 20 at a home on Golfview Terrace. Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said it began as a dispute between Tate and 24-year-old Kyla Cooper.
"I just heard arguing in the bed; I was laying down. So I heard a lot of arguing, and then I heard some thumps, and then I heard the shot," Keshama Smith, a witness, said.
Smith reported that the argument involved a man who was nearby. The conflict escalated when the victim told the man she was pregnant.
Deputies have identified the victim as 24-year-old Kyla Cooper. They believe the argument between Cooper and Tate led to the fatal shooting. The man involved, who was reportedly Cooper's boyfriend, was arrested on unrelated charges.
Investigators confirmed on July 3 that an autopsy showed that Cooper was not pregnant at the time of her death. Meanwhile, Tate faces charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
