Woman, young boy in serious condition after being shot; Gunman on the run

DeKalb Police were called to two shootings just miles apart Monday morning.

Just after 5 a.m. Monday, DeKalb Police were called to the 3100 block of Citrus Street for a report of people shot. When they arrived, officers found a woman and a young boy with multiple gunshot wounds.

The two victims were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.

DeKalb Police Assistant Chief Tony Catlin said they believe this is an isolated incident and the victims knew the gunman. Police said the suspect is a black male and are working to identify the suspect.

The victim’s other two children were in the home during the shooting. Police said they are working to locate family members for the children.

Police said they’re canvassing the area looking for additional witnesses.

Earlier in the morning a few miles away, DeKalb Police were called to an unrelated shooting on Flat Shoals Road at the Aspen Wood Apartments.

Police said an 8-year-old boy was hit by a stray bullet that came through the wall from outside. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries where he was treated and released.

DeKalb Police said they are working to identify the suspect in that shooting as well.
