FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A new witness is expected to take the stand Wednesday in the ongoing YSL RICO trial involving Atlanta rapper Young Thug. This follows Tuesday's tumultuous day of testimony with key witness Kenneth Copeland, better known as Lil Woody.
Antonio Sledge, who goes by Mounk Tounk, is set to appear in court today. In December 2022, Sledge became the seventh defendant to take a plea deal, pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Sledge was sentenced to 15 years probation as part of his plea deal.
Sledge's testimony comes after the contentious appearance of Kenneth Copeland, better known as Lil Woody, who finished his testimony Tuesday after months of controversy and repeated refusals to answer questions.
Woody’s reluctance to provide clear testimony has added uncertainty to the case against Young Thug, whom prosecutors allege is the leader of a violent street gang rather than a music label executive. Despite being granted immunity from prosecution for anything said on the stand, Woody openly admitted to lying to the police in the past to protect himself and his family, urging jurors not to trust his earlier statements.
The trial has faced numerous delays and disruptions, including Woody’s initial refusal to answer basic questions, his temporary incarceration for contempt of court, and the suspension of his attorney, which further delayed proceedings. Additionally, the case has seen changes in judicial oversight, with Judge Ural Glanville recused after a dispute over a meeting regarding Woody’s immunity deal.
Judge Paige Whitaker is now overseeing the trial.
