Republican DA nominee vows to dismiss YSL case if elected, criticizes current prosecution as a 'waste of court’s time'

The trial, which includes rapper Young Thug and several others accused of gang-related activities, has been under intense scrutiny.
The trial -- which has been ongoing since last year -- came to a halt Monday. There were new court documents filed the following day in the case.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The ongoing YSL trial has faced a new wave of criticism, with calls for immediate dismissal from the Republican nominee for Fulton County District Attorney, who accuses current leadership of continuing the case for media attention rather than justice.

Courtney Kramer, a Republican running for the DA seat, posted a statement on X, asking current DA Fani Willis to end the prosecution of the alleged Young Slime Life gang. The trial, which includes Atlanta rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams and several others accused of gang-related activities, has been under intense scrutiny.

In the statement, Kramer described the trial as “disintegrating,” expressing concerns about prosecutorial oversight and questioning the credibility of the evidence. She criticized the handling of the case, labeling it a "complete and utter waste of the court’s time," and accused prosecutors of failing to meet basic legal requirements, including disclosing exculpatory evidence that could benefit the defense.

"This case was brought to bring fame to current DA Fani Willis, not to bring justice to the community," Kramer said, later adding. "The public has witnessed a trial that is undoubtedly over-prosecuted by attorneys who have been repeatedly admonished for lack of trial preparation."

Kramer promised that if elected as the next  DA, she would immediately end the YSL prosecution and release those held without bond.

"The dismissal of the YSL case will be my first official action," she said.

The YSL trial, involving over 180 acts listed in the indictment, has become a focal point in Fulton County, drawing local and national attention. However, Kramer argues that the trial has strayed from its original purpose and expresses frustration with the ongoing legal proceedings.

"This is not about right versus left; this is about right versus wrong," she said. "Above all else, this is about the future of Fulton County and holding accountable those who are elected to serve and seek actual justice."

Multiple delays and legal controversies, including debates over evidence admissibility and witness credibility, have marked the YSL trial.
