COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County man accused of hitting a boy while he was crossing the street and then taking off has turned himself over to police.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, 59-year-old Lazaro Rodriguez of Lithia Springs surrendered to authorities around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
His arrest comes after police said he hit an 8-year-old boy who was crossing at Olive Springs Road near Cerice Circle around 3:54 p.m. Monday. Authorities said as the boy was in the street, Rodriguez hit him with his BMW X3 and kept going.
First responders rushed the boy to Scottish Rite Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police have not said what the boy's current condition is.
Authorities have since charged Rodriguez with felony hit and run. He was issued a $25,000 bond.
