Sole finalist for APS superintendent meets with parents, teachers, and students ahead of vote

Another town hall is from 6 to 7 p.m. at the New School in Carver.

ATLANTA — The sole finalist for superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools will meet with more parents as part of a series of public town halls.

Doctor Bryan Johnson held the first of those on Monday.

"I'm not a politician; I'm a superintendent of schools. I do teaching, learning, and leading...We run effective operations, we make sure the board knows what needs to happen, and I engage the community," he told parents.

The group interacted with Johnson and learned about his background. Some had the opportunity to ask questions, raising concerns about the district's budget, literacy, and Johnson's plan for the future.

"We're going to do the work with a level of intention that ensures that our children, our teachers, our leaders are successful, but we are not overtaken by these," he stated. "The mission I told a group earlier today is that the main thing is the children; it's the children."

For those who missed their opportunity to meet Dr. Johnson, don't worry! There's another town hall on Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the New School in Carver.

Those in attendance will once again get to ask questions and speak to Dr. Johnson one-on-one.
