ATLANTA — The start of the new school year is approaching fast and in some cases around metro Atlanta, it's only a couple of weeks away.
With inflation taking its toll, back-to-school shopping is an even bigger burden for many families this year.
Fortunately, several groups and organizations are holding events in the coming weeks that, in some cases, offer free supplies to help give you a lift as you get your student prepared to go back to school.
Here are some of those events going on around the metro over the next few weeks (Have an event? Email news@11alive.com with details):
- What it is: Atlanta Public Schools is getting students prepared for the new school year. Students who attend the back-to-school event will receive free backpacks, school supplies.
- When is it: Sunday, July 22, 2022, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Where is it: Georgia World Congress Center, Halls C1 + C2285 Andrew Young International Blvd Atlanta, GA 30313
- What it is: This is always one of the biggest back-to-school events around metro Atlanta every year. Hosea Helps will have book bags, school supplies, food boxes, fresh produce, water and more.
- When is it: Saturday, July 15, 11 a.m.
- Where is it: 2545 Forrest Hills Drive SW, Atlanta
- What it is: The sheriff's office will be giving away free bookbags and school supplies. Games, food, health assessments, music, and more will also be available. Preregister here.
- When is it: Saturday, July 15, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Where is it: The Villages at Carver Family YMCA, 1600 Pryor Road, SW, Atlanta
