DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) announced a series of staffing incentives and referral programs on Wednesday.
According to a press release, the school district is offering comprehensive compensation incentives for new professionals.
“We want to be a school district of choice for the best and brightest,” DeKalb Schools Superintendent Dr. Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton said in the release. “We know that a big part of this is salary, so we have been very intentional in putting together a comprehensive compensation package for professionals at all career levels to show our commitment in this competitive job market.”
Below are a few new hire incentives the district is offering:
- A starting salary for a new professionally certified teacher with 0 years of experience is $60,000. With the new hire incentive, the total salary for the 2024-2025 school year increases to $62,500.
- $2,000 for newly hired full-time classroom teachers, bus drivers, school resource officers (SROs), paraprofessionals, nurses, and select operations positions.
- $2,500 for new middle or high school teachers in math and science and select special education fields.
Additionally, the school district is offering a $2,000 employee retention incentive. To be eligible, employees must have been hired on or before June 30, 2024, and continue to work with the district through Sept. 30, 2024.
