ATLANTA — Higher education keeps getting more expensive and the numbers prove it, according to a report from the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
U.S. Department of Education data from 2018 going back to 2009 shows a dramatic increase in not only tuition, but also cost of living at U.S. colleges and universities — including in Georgia. The Business Chronicle found, the total sticker price at Georgia Tech has jumped 77% since 2009, with tuition and fees alone rising by 106% since 2013.
While the majority of price increases in the data sample occurred between 2009 and 2016, costs for both tuition and cost of living have also risen across the board in the past three years. The Atlanta Business Chronicle ranked the top 25 colleges and universities in the state based on federal data from 2018. The schools are ranked on total cost, which includes tuition, supplies, room and board, transportation and personal enrollment.
Nationally, the top three most expensive universities in 2018 were the University of Chicago, Columbia University and Northwestern University. The highest-priced school in Georgia, Emory University, ranked 85th nationally.
