GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Teachers in Gwinnett County will see a boost in their paychecks next year after the school board approves a budget that includes a salary increase.
The Gwinnett County School Board, which governs the largest school district in Georgia, voted to approve its budget, which includes a $4,000 total raise for its teachers. The raise, approved in a Tuesday night board meeting, is comprised of the $2,500 pay increase mandated by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp earlier this year, plus another $1,500 from the district.
The raise will apply exclusively to staff members who are paid on the teacher salary schedule, which excludes paraprofessionals. Employees who don't receive a teacher salary would receive a 4.25% cost-of-living increase.
With this decision, Gwinnett County follows the footsteps of Atlanta Public Schools, which also recently implemented a teacher pay raise.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story reported that the state-mandated pay increase was $2,000. It has been updated to correct the dollar amount and provide additional clarity on the new total amount teacher for teacher salaries.
