Several large metro Atlanta school districts back in session today

Fulton County, DeKalb County and Gwinnett County were among them.

ROSWELL, Ga. โ€” Several large metro Atlanta school systems are now back in session on Monday, among them Fulton County, DeKalb County and Gwinnett County.

11Alive's Liza Lucas was at Mountain Park Elementary in Roswell this morning running down some of the changes in the Fulton County system.

Among those are a new career prep high school -- the Promise Career Institute -- which mixes academics with focused career training. There are also new, increased slots for pre-kindergarten students.

The Fulton County system is also touting a filled-position rate for teachers of over 99% as the district welcomed back more than 87,000 students on Monday.

Bus drivers however continue to be hard to find -- the district warned there could be impacts to bus routes and on-time arrival rates. Parents and students have been encouraged to sign up for the Here Comes The Bus app.

DeKalb County Schools, meanwhile, also asked for "patience and understanding with school buses on the road" in a post on X. They're directing parents and guardians to download the Edulog Parent Portal App for updates.

And Gwinnett County Schools said schools were "so excited to see your smiling faces as we prepare for a fun, safe, healthy and successful new school year" as they encouraged students to share first day photos using the hashtag "#GCPSBTS24."
