NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators say the driver of a Toyota Scion has been charged after crossing the center-line and crashing into a fully-loaded school bus in Newton County on Tuesday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, around 7:45 a.m., troopers were called to a crash on Brown Bridge Road near Woodland Road. Based on the preliminary investigation, troopers believe the Scion crossed the line and hit the front of a Newton County school bus. A spokesperson for Newton County schools said that 31 Newton County High School students were on the bus at the time.

Despite the impact, GSP reports that only five students complained of minor injuries and were checked by a school nurse upon arriving at school. The school system added that emergency medical services personnel also checked the students at the scene.

The driver of the Scion, identified as 25-year-old Cullen Moss of Covington, complained of minor injuries but wasn't taken to the hospital. Moss was charged with failure to maintain lane.

Authorities haven't released details on how they believe the crash happened or if further charges are pending against the car driver. The investigation, however, is ongoing.
