ATLANTA -- The first day of school is rapidly approaching, and we have your full listing of when each of the school districts return to classrooms.
While last year, one of the big controversies was tied to whether or not school started too early, when several school districts started school during the month of July, there are few metro Atlanta districts with a July start date this year. All of the other school districts have kept their start dates in August.
Last year's early start even became a matter of discussion during the General Assembly session.
Republican State Rep. Ron Stephens floated a bill that mandated pushing back school start dates across the state in order to help keep statewide attractions open longer.

"If you look at every single attraction in the area, all of them close up mid-summer as soon as school starts," Stephens said in January.
Local school boards emphasized keeping local control of school calendars and maintaining that control on a continuing basis with input from parents.
The State Board of Education and the State School Superintendent do not have the authority to set school calendars.
