Police say why Killer Mike was detained, escorted out in handcuffs at Grammys

Earlier Sunday night, Killer Mike swept the rap categories he was nominated for at The Grammys.

LOS ANGELES — On a day that rapper Killer Mike swept the rap categories in which he was nominated at The Grammys, the Atlanta native also seemed to experience some turmoil on Sunday night.

According to Forbes and The Hollywood Reporter, Killer Mike was taken away in handcuffs inside Crypto.com Arena before the live telecast started.

Later Sunday night, police spokesperson Officer Mike Lopez told the Associated Press that Killer Mike being detained stemmed from an altercation inside the arena around 4 p.m.

A representative for Mike did not immediately respond to emails or text messages requesting a comment.

The Hollywood Reporter initially reported that the rapper was detained "for a misdemeanor charge," although the exact details behind those charges are not yet known, but that it has nothing to do with The Grammys. The report stated the Los Angeles Police Department would be involved.

It's unclear what potential charges he faces.

Here is the video from The Hollywood Reporter's Chris Gardner that appears to show Killer Mike in handcuffs with LAPD officers escorting him away.

Earlier Sunday night, he won the Grammy for Best Rap Album ("Michael"), Best Rap Song ("SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS") and Best Rap Performance for the same song, which features Future, André 3000 and Eryn Allen Kane.
