ATLANTA — The City of Atlanta has officially submitted its request for proposal to host the prestigious Sundance Film Festival starting in 2027.
The annual festival, which has been based in Utah for more than 40 years, announced in April that it is exploring "viable locations in the United States to host the Sundance Film Festival beginning in 2027." Last month, it was announced that three Georgia cities — Atlanta, Athens, and Savannah — were among the 15 cities to make the second phase.
On Monday, the City announced its proposal and launched a website on why Atlanta should be chosen to host Sundance, including the city's dedication to the arts, diverse population, public transportation, hospitality and things to do and see around the metro area.
“We are honored that Atlanta is being considered as a potential host for the Sundance Film Festival in 2027 and beyond. Atlanta is where the worlds of film, entertainment, economic development, diversity and inclusion meet and grow cohesively together,” said Mayor Andre Dickens. “We’re ready to show the Sundance Institute that Atlanta is the place where opportunities are endless, and Sundance can continue to shine.”
Also, in support of its bid, Atlanta and its partners have already pledged $2 million in financial backing to support the festival's success.
The final location selection will be announced later this year or early 2025, the Sundance Institute said.
