Video appears to show rapper Lil Baby get arrested in Atlanta for traffic violations.
It happened Thursday evening off Lee Street in the Oakland Park neighborhood of Atlanta, according to an eye witness.
Video circulating online provided to 11Alive showed a man in a black track suit on the ground outside an orange Chevy Corvette being cuffed by a Georgia State Patrol trooper. Meanwhile, someone in the background can be heard shouting, "What are they doing to Lil Baby?"
According to jail officials, the rapper, whose real name is Dominique Jones, was arrested and booked for failure to signal, eluding police and reckless driving. A mugshot showed Jones wearing the same clothing as seen in the video.
According to GSP, a trooper was stopped at a red light at Lee Street and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard around 6:05 p.m., Thursday. When the light turned green, he saw the Corvette change lanes without signaling. At that point, the trooper said the car quickly sped up and weaved in and out of other cars in a "reckless manner."
As Jones passed the trooper in the Corvette, the officer turned on his emergency lights and sped up to go after Jones. That's when the Corvette turned right to go south on Lee Street - all the while darting between cars.
The trooper eventually caught up to Jones after the Corvette got caught in traffic at Donnelly Avenue. The trooper made to get behind the Corvette, but that's when Jones apparently tried to accelerate to change lanes. He was unsuccessful, however, thanks to heavy traffic.
At that point, the trooper got out of his patrol car and ordered the driver to get out of the Corvette. Jones did so and immediately got to the ground, at which point the trooper took him into custody. He was booked into jail, but later released on a signature bond.
Jones responded on Instagram after the ordeal, writing, "(Expletive) The Police Who Be On That (expletive.) Shoutout To The Ones Who Get You Thru The Process ASAP ....."
The 24-year-old rapper is from Atlanta, and is best known for top songs "Drip Too Hard" and "Freestyle."
Jones is signed to the Quality Control record label, and quickly broke through on the hip-hop music scene. 11Alive's Neima Abdulahi profiled his meteoric rise in the ATL CULTURE digital series.
