LOS ANGELES — Usher was named man of the year after receiving the highest honor in Atlanta, an explosive Super Bowl performance, and now the Entertainer of the Year award at the NAACP Image awards on Saturday.
The Atlanta R&B superstar accepted his award from Oprah Winfrey at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, reflecting on his three-decade journey.
“This is for you, you, my number ones,” the singer said as the audience repeated his words back to him.
The award is given to entertainers and writers of color who have their work highlighted.
After his legendary Super Bowl performance, which was the most-watched in history, he married his longtime girlfriend, Jenn Goicoechea. In his speech, he spoke about everything he has done within the year.
“I don't know how many people do that much stuff in one setting,” said the multi-Grammy winner. "They say behind or beside or with every strong man is a stronger woman."
The "Confessions" singer beat Colman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey and Keke Palmer.
He also dropped his ninth studio album, "Coming Home," shortly before his performance.
The latest award comes after Usher received the Phoenix Award, the highest in Atlanta, last month.
The superstar was in a celebratory mood fresh off his Super Bowl halftime performance, saying, “This is officially the United States of Atlanta, dammit.”
While accepting the award, he said he "wanted the world to understand the importance of this, the importance of preserving our legacy."
His latest win isn't the last time he will make an appearance. He will be kicking off his tour around the country and performing at State Farm Arena for six nights in a row in August.
