Family files lawsuit against Payless store where 2-year-old killed by falling mirror

The lawsuit alleges the store had knowledge of the faulty mirror and chose not to do anything about it.

RIVERDALE, Ga. — The parents of a 2-year-old crushed by a falling mirror inside a Payless Shoe Store in early March have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the store.

Ifran Siddique was inside the Riverdale store with her parents, aunts and brother March 2 when the full-mirror fell from the wall without warning.

Now, Ifran's parents Moshin and Nosheen are suing the store for $200,000,000 for her wrongful death, but also for damages from emotional "distress, fright and pain" caused by family witnessing the child's death."

The lawsuit filed April 27 alleges the store had knowledge of the "faulty and improperly secured large full-length mirror" and "had reason to anticipate and expect the type of harm" that resulted in the 2-year-old's death.

The lawsuit states that Payless "chose not to guard members of the public" from the possibly dangerous mirror, by either posting warnings or placing a barrier around the mirror or temporarily closing the store while the mirror was repaired or replaced.

The store has since been ordered not to destroy, alter, modify, repair od change any mirror or fixtures involved in the incident.
