There are now four known flu deaths in the state of Georgia this season. During the previous flu report from the Georgia Department of Health, there were two confirmed deaths.
There are more flu deaths than the same time last year, according the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The victims this year are three people who were over the age of 65, and one child between the age of 5 to 17.

Georgia is one of of only three states that has widespread flu activity, according to a map posted by the CDC. According to the agency, no states have reported inactivity.
The flu is hitting Georgia particularly hard. Dozens of students were out with the illness at a Long Cane Elementary School in LaGrange.
The CDC said the best way to prevent seasonal flu is through annual vaccinations.

Flu season is during the Fall and Winter months and activity peaks in February, according to the CDC. One hundred fifty-five people died during flu season last year.
