GWINNETT, Ga. — Former Atlanta Hawk's player Mike Glenn has a rather large collection of memorabilia in his archives. From articles, pictures and artifacts, Glenn shares a wide array of memories with household names you know and some you may not know.
"There are so many great players that were pioneers of the sport that we know nothing about," Glenn said.
For the third year, Glenn has shared his collection with Gwinnett County for Black History Month, that currently sits in the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Building.
On Friday, along with the Gwinnett Multicultural Advisory Committee, Glenn gave a crowd of over 20 people a tour of his personal collection.
Afterwards, the crowd was introduced to living legends who played major parts in Georgia history. Willie Brown, one of the first deaf players in major college basketball.
When Brown was in college he received a letter from Walter Payton, who was playing for the Chicago Bears at the time. Payton stated in the letter how much Brown inspired him and wished him well in his career. Brown always wanted to thank Payton in person, but never got the opportunity to before Payton's passing.
Little did Brown know, that Payton's sister was in the audience at the event. Brown was excited to tell Payton's sister how much the NFL star meant to him.
