Fourth confirmed rabid case detected in Hall County this year

The rabid raccoon was found in Sardis area of Hall County.
Developing Story

Hall County authorities Wednesday sounded a rabies alert after a rabid raccoon came into contact with a dog recently in the 4100 block of Smokerise Court in Gainesville.

County animal control was notified last Friday that the raccoon was rabid after it was tested by the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur.

This was the fourth confirmed case of rabies in Hall County in 2018.

Alert signs were posted in the area.

Anyone seeing any animals acting abnormally in the area should contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for $10 at the Hall County Animal Shelter, 1688 Barber Rd., Gainesville.
