SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. — Two firefighters are recovering after their truck crashed while responding to an emergency in Walton County.
The accident happened just after 12 p.m. Friday on Hawkins Academy Road in Walton County, as a Social Circle fire truck was heading to another incident.
The Georgia State Patrol said the fire truck had its lights and sirens activated as it began negotiating a left turn. That's when the preliminary investigation suggests the passenger-side tires left the road on the right, causing the driver to overcorrect and cross the center line.
Troopers investigating the scene believe the driver overcorrected again, crossed back over the line and tipped over as it left the road. It then traveled down an embankment and rolled causing the cab of the fire truck to totally collapse.
Both occupants in the truck were taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, one of the victims has already been released. However, the other is still receiving treatment for serious injuries.
While the initial findings have been released, the investigation is still ongoing.
