GREENE COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County family is morning the loss of a young man they say died in a jet ski accident on Lake Oconee earlier in the week.
A spokesperson for the Greene County Sheriff's Office said the body of Sameer Dev Chervu was found Wednesday afternoon, roughly a day after he went out on the lake riding a jet ski near Reynold's Landing.
Both the sheriff's office and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources participated in the search to find him.
In Chervu's obituary, his family said the 26-year-old was a Georgia native whose education career had multiple ties to the state - including his graduation from The Westminster Schools in Atlanta and his bachelor's degree at Georgia Tech.
The obituary said Chervu had just completed his third year of medical school at Tufts University in Boston before the accident. He had planned to become a spinal surgeon back in Georgia. Family said he spent time on Lake Oconee whenever possible.
Due to Chervu's love of music, the family asked that donations be made in his name to VH1's Save the Music Foundation in lieu of flowers.
