Guests say hotel promised room with a view for implosion, didn't deliver

Even though they requested and paid in advance for a room overlooking the Georgia Dome implosion, guests say the Westin Hotel on Peachtree is not holding up their end of the bargain.

ATLANTA -- With less than 12 hours to go until the Georgia Dome implosion, folks who thought they'd have a room with a view to witness the controlled explosion of the Dome say they aren't getting what they paid for.

Customers of the Westin Hotel on Peachtree called 11Alive Sunday night saying even though they requested and paid in advance for a room overlooking the Dome, the hotel could not guarantee them they'd get one of those rooms.

Kori Loftus said she was one of those dozens of frustrated guests.

"I was guaranteed a room," she told 11Alive's Ron Jones.

Loftus said she and the others paid for their rooms Saturday, but when they got to the hotel Sunday around 5:30 p.m. to check in, "They have no rooms available and they have 90 people ahead of me with Georgia Dome viewing requested," she said.

Barbara Hart and Edward Howard said they were in the same boat. They also paid in advance.

"When we made our reservations yesterday, they said you're prepaid we'll pretty much put you on the west view," Howard said.

11Alive reached out to the manager at the Westin Hotel for a comment. We were told by staff that guests were able to request a room with the specific view, but it was never guaranteed, even if it was paid for in advance.

Loftus said it's left them in a tough spot.

"Right now, we're just hanging out waiting for a room," she said. "We thought about going home, but we speck $200 to be here, but we're just trying to make the best of a bad situation."
