MCDONOUGH, Ga. — A Hampton, Georgia man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday after prosecutors said he molested a girl with autism.
According to the Assistant District Attorney Megan Matteucci, the girl was 10 years old.
Matteucci said 61-year-old Edward Spencer pleaded guilty to two counts of child molestation in Henry County Superior Court. Spencer admitted to performing a sexual act on the girl while she was sleeping back in July of 2018, according to Matteucci.
“Mr. Spencer targeted this victim because of her age and disability. We will not tolerate predators like this in our community and we will continue to aggressively prosecute them,” wrote District Attorney Darius Pattillo.
Spencer has to serve 18 of his 30-year-sentence in prison, register as a sex offender and he is not allowed to have any contact with the victim or her family, according to officials.
Patillo went on to write, “The family is pleased with the outcome and that the defendant is going to prison for a long time.”
